The Barrow Farmstead, Rockville village, Rockport  ca. 1801 Offered with 14 acres, price TBD.

The house was built by Revolutionary war veterans, the Keen(e) brothers - Isaac and Jacob -- in the late 1700's or according to one previous owner, in 1801.  Their father had been an early settler in the Rockand area.  It was owned through the 19th century and into the 20th century by the Barrows family - Beniah Barrow is buried in the nearby graveyard and is also a reolutionary war veteran..  It was once a 600 acre farm on the side of the hill rising to the west behind the village of Rockville, which is now part of the town of Rockport.  Rockville at one time was a thriving village with its mill, store, post office, 4th of July parade, and other typical features of a small New England town.  It is now a sleepy little village with a wondefully restored 1850's chapel in original condition, the steeple of which is viewed from the house.

The house has been extensively and authentically restored according to its Federal period character, with many updated systems.  It has five bedrooms (including two with attached baths on the first floor), four bathrooms, seven working fireplaces (including its original cooking fireplace with working beehive oven), two woodstoves, formal dining room and parlor, family room with two fireplaces and reading and entertainment nooks, master bedroom with attached dressing room, large custom but period appropriate kitchen, laundry room, large two bay carriage house attached to the house with 2nd floor workshop/studio space, and a magnificent detached two story orignal handhewn timber frame barn with horse stalls and haylofts.  There are gardens and a small orchard, a large croquet lawn, and over fourteen acres of pasture and woods, with an old, stone-walled lined farm lane running along the field to a small pond at the edge of the woods. The property is bounded by stone walls with a bubbling brook along one border.  It is a wonderful, historic, and magical place.

The house faces east, its three season porch gets wonderful morning light, and with a rebuilt 2 story carriage house offering car storage and workshop space
